There is no real time travel, it is all fiction. The source is a really good short story that makes the paradox of time travel clear. At least it does to some people! I read the whole 34 page story onto audio tape for a woman who didn't care enough to read it herself and after listening to it she STILL didn't understand the paradox described. I guess if you don't care enough to read a 34 page short story yourself, you don't care enough to understand!

Time travel is fiction

The best example of what might be possible that I can give is a novel Timescape by one of my UC Irvine profs, Greg Benford. Although it's fiction, it's written by a guy who does understand general relativity and what it theoretically does and does not allow.

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. It's written using American ideom and spelling (which is a shame because he's English) but once you get past that barrier it's a pretty good book.

any good book (text?) on modern physics that covers relativity and/or special relativity should explain the idea of moving in the dimension of time. the universe has at least four dimensions. these are commonly referred to as x, y, z and time (t or ct). we are all moving though time. I believe the questions you are interested in concern whether or not we can change the the speed at which we are moving though time and whether or not we can change the direction we are moving in. one way to obtain the title of a good book might be to ask a physics professor.
