Just because you know something, doesn't mean you should say it. Learning the correct time and place to use your knowledge is a good start :) Intellegence isn't a flaw, so the people who are making fun of you are idiots :)

I had that problem and did not do well in handling it. My two daughters have that problem and they have no problem at all. One of the things they do that I did not was to show no shame or shyness about who they are. They defend the ones who have a little trouble and help them understand or catch up. They are bilingual and help students who struggle with English.
Do not apologize for excellence. I am not sure why my daughters do so much better with success than I did. I attended 19 different schools because we moved a great deal, and my daughters have known only one home -- I think that has something to do with it. I have one daughter who brings home academic awards signed by President Bush and she is also discussed as a potential Olympic swimmer -- her boyfriend is the school's quarterback. She does not brag. She does not seem to understand she is not exactly normal. Her peer group does not always "get" her, and she sometimes feels like she has no friends. Guess what -- that is part of being a teenager. I encouraged her to run for class president. She did not win, but she only lost by 4 votes; not bad for a friendless teen.
People made fun of me, but thinking back, they also voted me runner up for best all round boy in my senior year. Maybe some of that "making fun" was all in good natured fun and I just did not know exactly how to handle it. Whatever you do, don't dumb down, and don't apologize for excellence. The people making fun today will call you boss in a few more years. School is the last time they will have you on equal ground -- give them a break, they're not the brightest.
Good luck.

The truly smart don't care about being made fun of just for their intelligence. Those who would make fun of someone for that reason are not deserving of your time. Being smart shouldn't be something hidden either, you should be proud - look at people like Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking ...

The answer to this question is all about attitude. When I was in high school I too was very smart. But no one ever made fun of me for it. Why? Because I was also cool. I always showed confidence and high self-esteem, but I was never condescending or arrogant. I never treated anyone like they were stupid for not studying or skipping class or answering questions incorrectly. I set myself apart from the "nerds" and everyone recognized me as intelligent and cool. So attitude is everything... People respect people who respect themselves. Hope this helps.

Well, look at it this way, when you are grown and done with your education, you will have a really great job sitting at a desk making good money and those who made fun of you, they'll be the ones emptying your garbage can beside your desk, so you'll get the last laugh. Keep up the good work, and besides, you're pretty cute too ;)

Don't brag about it and don't flaunt it in anyone's face - especially other smart people. Be humble but be proud of what you know and what you can do. Volunteer so people can see that you think of others more than of yourself - if you're academically gifted, help tutor younger children or your own classmates. If you're musically talented, start a club or a band for kids in a local school or community.

properly, first it relies upon on the community. My college is ranked 2d-perfect of the state and right here the smarter little ones are like Gods/Goddesses. besides the undeniable fact that, i've got seen many different colleges that shun nerds. One rationalization for this could be jealousy. It takes lots to check and concentration to get on your dream-job, and different little ones do exactly not % to put in the attempt to try this. those little ones tease the "nerds" or "dorks" to cause them to experience better approximately themselves. yet another excuse is peer rigidity and lack of self belief. whilst one or 2 of the greater properly-known little ones initiate teasing and making relaxing of a smart individual, something of the group joins in so that they gained't be concentrated. it fairly is slightly mob psychology, fairly. aim one individual, and you're shielded from harm. This additionally happened in the process the Salem Witch Trials, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust, and that i'm specific there are various greater activities in history the place this happened. finally, (maximum) little ones do exactly unlike nerds/geeks, era. the common "nerd" is one that wears glasses, has bronchial asthma, examine/reads lots, and is socially awkward. The very photograph of a nerd is destructive in human society.

Who cares if immature goofs are making fun of you. Wait until you have a better job and make more money than them. Then see who's laughing!
