I quit teaching after 8 years thinking I was tired of it. I was really just tired of the school I was in. Tired of the administration mostly, small town politics, and other things happening in my life at the time. I knew in less than two months that it was a mistake, but had to sit out for a year. It was the longest year of my life. I got back into the classroom as soon as I could. I don't teach for the salary although I couldn't do it for free! I do it because I love it. I will say after 30 years it is getting more difficult to find the joy in it. Fewer students care about what I want to share with them. They are bored with life at such young ages. I imagine I will teach for another 7 or 8 years to get full retirement. I will probably miss it, but I bet I will adjust.

I have never had a teaching job at a school. I have done some teaching at businesses. I would never teach at a school because of the low pay. Any teacher that teaches above 4th grade, takes their lives in their hands each day they go to work. You couldn't pay me enough to go into an inter city school, not with out the 5th marine corp as security (with orders to shoot to kill).

When schools are allowed to secure the schools and punish those that do not follow the rules, then perhaps our teachers can get back to the business of teaching kids. Until then, I'll do my teaching elsewhere.

Yes. I taught English in a language school here in Spain. I quit for many reasons, top among which is I discovered that you really do need a gift for teaching well, a proper vocation in the professional sense. It needs to be important to you, not just a way to make money. I also quit because my boss wasn't terribly honest, we didn't have proper contracts that reflected all the hours we worked, etc. And riding herd on a bunch of bored teenagers who really didn't want to be there but were sent by their parents to get them out of the house, wasn't my idea of fun.

I don't know that I'd quit even if I did win the lottery. While there are things I dislike about teaching (mostly the endless paperwork the government now requires of us in the name of "accountability"), I really do like teaching. It's one of the few fields where you can use your knowledge to directly help other people.

I good friend of mine was a teacher with all the proper schooling but was paid very poorly. This person got a job with a major whole sale retail company and is now the Company's VP assistant making obscenely more that teaching could have ever offered. Our teachers sacrifice a lot to do what they do!

I quit teaching because my expectations of my students was too high and no matter what I did I was disappointed. I was well-regarded by faculty, staff, and the students; but I simply was not satisfied with the results of my efforts.

I became a writer and am now a publisher. I will not go back to teaching -- I am simply not well suited to the profession.

Good luck.

Well, I haven't quit yet, but I've thought about it....

Some days are just really tough. Usually my biggest problems deal with the administration and student discipline.

i imagine that each and each and every one instructors bypass through an same problem that you're dealing with! after I first all started coaching, I received 3 needs progression for the first portion of the year and a million needs progression for the 2d 1/2. After my fifth year of coaching i became instructor of the year at my college...It had to be all the prayers because I nonetheless experience like i'm not that giant of a instructor (besides the actual undeniable truth that I actually were advised that i'm a superb instructor because i'm continuously questioning and critiquing myself). besides, I used to get so annoyed because my critical bragged on some instructors and requested me to bypass to those instructors and ask them a thanks to get students questioning more desirable critically. lengthy tale short... principals opt for to work out you asking the scholars severe questions and having them relate what you're coaching them to their wide-spread lives. in addition they opt for the scholars to do about seventy 5% of the artwork. In essence, in a 60 minute classification era you should provide a short mini-lesson from about 15 minutes. Then the scholars might want to artwork in communities for approximately 25 minutes to finish a pastime that includes severe questioning. then you truly might want to give up them and clarify what you opt for them to do to take the gaining recognize-how of extra and then enable them complete the project for approximately 15 more desirable minutes independently. Then enable them the prospect to share their artwork in the course of the perfect 5 minutes. i'm sorry to provide you ideas, regardless of the indisputable fact that it has taken me this lengthy to confirm it out. i am hoping that each and every thing is going nicely for you!! i visit wish that issues get more desirable for you at your college.
