Alright i had asked before about the substance coming out o f the back of my throat (chunks of white stuff); well ok now i have another problem. three days ago my throat got sore, but i havent had any other symptoms of a cold. its swollen, red and white splotched, nodes are tender, slightly painful when swallowing and more of those chunks are coming out. all the signs of strep. now i went and had a culture done, but its not strep. and was told if it doesnt go away in 2-3 days to come back in to the docs...and to just take sore throat medicine. well its swelled up more today.
anyone got an idea of what it is and what i can do?

EBV - Epstein Barr Virus can cause a tonsillitis that looks identical to streptococcal pharyngitis.

The doc only checked for strep and then sent you home!? There are so many other things it could be. I would go back, or better yet, get another doc. You could have mono, an std, tonsil trouble, upper respiratory infection, etc.

Maybe it was too early for a strep test, call your doctor back and tell him it is worse, he should put you on antibiotics as a procautinary. It usually take 2-3 days to get strep culture back.

it could be an std. Or mono. Some food allergies can cause swelling and painful rashes in the mouth. But it sounds a lot like strep or mono to me.
