Sorry about your situation but I work in a 45 year old coal fired power plant where we have to deal with coal dust in the air, flue gas and sulphur dioxide, and calcium sulfate around every corner. In addition to those, our generators are filled with hydrogen, we use propane to fire igniters, at a rate that would heat your home for a day, every 3 minutes and in the summer months we use thousands of gallons of anhydrous ammonia per day to minimize harmful emissions. All in all, a very dangerous place to work. Fortunately, I only have eleven years left until I can retire.

You don't say how long you have been there. I think the thing is sometimes we get unhappy and then it just sucks no matter what. For instance I have been with the company I work at for 17 years next month. I have been the front Office Supervisor (since I was about 25 ) for about 14 of them. The guy I work for couldn't be a better person to work for. If you have to be off with your kids or something else unexpected that's fine. But there is stuff that goes on now that didn't use to. But I have insurance, vacation, sick days, a child, and I make good money for where I live so its hard to walk away from that and start over somewhere else. If you don't have that much time invested ( where you have the benefits ) in where you are at I would say find something else and give your two weeks. Don't get stuck somewhere where you are not going to be happy for the long haul. If you have been there I would say that you are just going to have to build your courage up (like me) and find something else.

I work for a small co. in sales. My first year (this last one) I increased total sales by a little more than 30% (I don't get commissions ) And I didn't get so much as a Christmas card.
