Boy out in the field playing baseball:

The first sensation is auditory, the sound of the bat hitting the ball. Even before the sound is recognized by the auditory areas of the cortex, the thalamus has activated the brain's emotional and perceptual centers. Thus, the boy decides to find and track the ball visually. Once the image of the ball in flight registers on the occipital cortex, a message is sent to the motor cortex to tell the legs to run. The perception centers and motor cortex coordinate his run towards the ball. The right frontal lobes help him interpret the flight of the ball so he can go meet the ball as it falls. The neural network that has stored his ball-catching skill is engaged and with natural ease he meets the ball with his glove. The feel of the ball in his glove creates a sensation that is interpreted at the amydala as satisfaction and the appropriate neurotransmitters are released, reinforcing the whole process.
