I think it's one thing to judge someones singing ability and dance moves but it's quite another to be blantantly rude to the contestants about things that they can't change. The kid with the big eyes for example. He was such a sweet guy. Did you see how he was crossing his fingers for his new friend to win after he had already been rejected? I mean, how many of you would really root for another person to win? Fine- the kid couldn't sing good but simon didn't have to call him a jungle creature. That guy can't change the way he looks.
I understand that people know what they are getting into when they audition. I believe that some people do it as a joke and KNOW they can't sing but audition anyway. Other people I really believe that they think they can sing good.
Either way, the judges should be judging their talent- NOT their looks and definitely not make fun of people. Its not funny.
P.S: It seems like Randy is acting more like Simon this season too.

buzz_dawson44- you're right. Like that engineer guy that said all of his co-workers encouraged him to try out. They knew what they were doing.

I agree with everything that Rosie O'Donnell said today on The View - this is entertainment in America? Three millionaires ridiculing someone because he's not attractive? He looked like a perfectly nice person to me, and last night I watched it and said to myself 'That wasn't nice', but that didn't stop me from recording it and adding it to my AI Auditions library. Today, I see it in a better light. I imagine the humilation that kid Simon called a "monkey" is going through today, after having this video aired all over the world. I wonder how long it will fester before he snaps and kills someone. And I wonder how I, as a compassionate person, could sit there and not turn off the tv last night. What does that say about me and everyone else who didn't turn it off? Do we really see ourselves as compassionate people and at the same time we aren't completely outraged over this treatment? Only sociopaths don't have the ability to put themselves in another person's shoes to understand how he might feel. I think we should all put ourselves in that young man's shoes today. Yeah, the contestants make the decision to go on the show, but a lot of them seem very disturbed, so maybe they can't make that kind of judgment in the first place. It's kind of on the same level as ridiculing a retarded kid.
Personally, I'm done with American Idol - it's the same crap every season - and I think I'll be a better off person for it. It's not about the music anymore, it's about how many mentally-unstable people Simon, Paula and Randy can crush to dust. I'm including Paula and Randy in that as well because they are no better. Paula's billed as the nice one, but look how much she's changed since Season 1 - she was laughing at everyone too last night, even while she was telling them they were 'awesome'. Paula will always be an 80's has-been with questionable talent herself, and Randy Jackson will forever be just a third-rate bass player for a defunct 80's mullet band. These three aren't qualified to judge what they should wear in the morning, let alone talent or another person's looks. The sooner this show goes away, the better off society will be. And now I have 6 new videotapes to tape over with some actual quality television. That is, if I can find any.....

I don't know about this season, but I've watched some "American Idol Rewind" last year and it seemed like that white British guy judge with the short spiked hair was the most cruel! He's a smart aleck and needs an attitude adjustment! On the other hand, if your a judge for such a show, you have to be at least somewhat tough. The judge who's the black dude seemed to be O.K., and Paula (Abdul) - WOW! You're still looking hot after all these years! The latter two are fair, but firm judges and still treat people like decent human beings. Paula, when are you coming out with another album?

These people are putting themselves out there and should know what to expect even before they walk in the door.
Yes American Idol is mean, especially Simon, but at least he's not deluding them. That audition will probably affect them the rest of their lives - please note I'm saying probably, not definitely.
I think the guys that put them thru the first rounds are the meanest - what are they thinking "Oh lets put this one thru and make him a laughing stock on national television".
And the fact we all lap it up and not say anything to protest says something about our culture.
I liked that Indian kid the best because I thought it was sweet that he didn't boast about the fact he was told he was the better singer.

Simon's in love. Things outside of work are much better, and when Simon's nice, everybody's a bit happier. Also, Simon is so grateful to be forgiven for his foibles that he suddenly has compassion for the less-than-perfect singers who are auditioning. He'll be much meaner during the actual show, when his love life is bound to be hitting another low point and crabby Simon will wonder what the * he was thinking!

The majority of those folks are fakes anyway - their feelings are NOT hurt - they know they can't sing - they are just on there for their 5 mins of fame.
HOWEVER the guy you are talking about and his heavy friend that came on after him were both CLEARLY mentally challenged to say the least - and for Simon to tell that poor guy he had a face "like a monkey" was like a bully picking on a true innocent. That is supposed to be good TV? Not.
Randy is talking more with Simon because they want Paula to not talk so much - as her drug and alcohol abuse is too evident when she does. I like her but she needs to step up to the plate and go to rehab - and they need to quit covering for her. It's a bad example.

I think they just get fed up with these people that can't sing wasting their time and the time of the people that can sing.

Some people need to hear what other people think. However, they could be a little bit nicer. I think they come off really mean and cruel sometimes. But that is show business for you.

No more than usual.
The cruel people are the ones who tell people they can sing and encourage them to try out.

No, they are just trying to keep their ratings up. Most of these people know they can't sing and just want to be on TV.
