Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603) was Queen of England, Queen of France (in name only), and Queen of Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death. She is sometimes referred to as The Virgin Queen (as she never married), Gloriana, or Good Queen Bess, and was immortalized by Edmund Spenser as the Faerie Queene. Elizabeth I was the sixth and final monarch of the Tudor dynasty (the other Tudor monarchs having been her grandfather Henry VII, her father Henry VIII, her half-brother Edward VI, her cousin Jane, and her half-sister Mary I). She reigned for 44 years, during a period marked by increases in English power and influence worldwide, as well as great religious turmoil within England.

Is this really a serious question? I can't believe that it is. If it is Queen Elizabeth 1 was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. What were you doing when history was covering this in school - asleep?

She reigned for 44 years, during a period marked by increases in English power and influence worldwide, as well as great religious turmoil within England.
Elizabeth's reign is referred to as the Elizabethan era or the Golden Age of Elizabeth. Playwrights William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and Ben Jonson all flourished during this era; Francis Drake became the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe; Francis Bacon laid out his philosophical and political views; and English colonisation of North America took place under Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Humphrey Gilbert.
Elizabeth was an even-tempered and decisive ruler. A favourite motto for her was video et taceo ("I see and keep silent")[1]. This last quality, viewed with impatience by her counsellors, often saved her from political and marital misalliances. Like her father Henry VIII, she was a writer and poet. She granted Royal Charters to several famous organisations, including Trinity College, Dublin (its official name is the College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Elizabeth near Dublin) in 1592 and the British East India Company (1600).
The Commonwealth of Virginia, one of the 13 colonies that became the United States of America, was named for Elizabeth I, the "Virgin Queen".

The reason QE II called is called that is it was decided that the monarchs of the UK would call them selfs after the higher number in the old kingdoms of Scotland and England. for example
if there was a king david the 7th of scotland and 4th of england the next king david would be david the 8th where as if it was king john the 3rd of scotland and king john the 5th of england the king would be king john the 6th of the UK.
In scotland another title King/Queen of the Scots can also be used.

Its confusing I know but once a person is crowned king or queen their title changes. For example, once Prince Charles is crowned King of United Kingdom and Northern Ireland his title will change to "Charles the Third Rex".
Elizabeth the First was the daughter of King Henry the Eight and Anne Boleyn. She was thrid in line for the throne after her younder brother Edward and older sister Mary. She was know as the Virgin queen because she never married and in those times meant that she never had sex. The state of Virginia is named for her because of her virginity.

Are you seriously telling me you've never heard of Elizabethans or Elizabethan buildings or anything. This expression referrs to the period during the reign of the first Queen Elizabeth. One of history's great ironies is that her father King Henry VIII did not believe that a woman would be able to rule on her own and so went through 6 wives in order to try and get sons to inherit his throne. This daughter of his went on to be arguably England's (Britain's) greatest monarch.

There was no Elizabeth the First of the United Kingdom, is the answer to your question.
The current Elizabeth can call herself whatever she likes, Fanny the Ninth, Lisa the Fourteenth, whatever. She decided on Elizabeth the Second. Get over it.
Charles, btw, will be George the Seventh. That's the name he's chosen.

Known as the Virgin Queen, she has been portrayed in film by half the actresses in the English speaking world: Bette Davis, Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Glenda Jackson, the lovely Fiona out of Shameless whose name I forget, etc. Although you obviously have no knowledge of English history, how can you have missed the films ?
