Credit or Debit cards Visa or Mastercard are the best, you can withdraw money from ATM's, there are even ATM's in the big malls like SM.
Equitable is best it allows P5,000 withdrawal per transaction, with multiple transactions allowable, but for each withdrawal you will pay your cards minimum fee.
Over the counter you can withdraw from P20,000 - P200,000 in one day. You will need your passport, plus a photocopy of the photo/information page, and another means of identification like drivers licence. You will also fill in a form. The form and photocopy are kept by the bank.
Cash and then travellers cheques are the worst rate. Cards are the best, as it isn't dead money to the banks.
Enjoy your stay, I am sure that you will.

Neither. Do not use traveller's checks. Too few places take them in the Philippines. Use a credit card as much as possible. It's safer and much more convenient in all cases.
Carry two credit cards. Record their numbers and the cards' emergency telephone numbers before you leave.
One of these cards should be a debit (ATM) card--this one you will keep in the hotel safe. Every morning, withdraw cash that you would need for the next 24 hours only and return the card to the safe afterwards.
The other card you can carry with you at all times. Use it for bigger item purchases; hotel, plane tickets and some shopping.
Traveller's checks have gone the way of the dinosaur.

These days travellers cheques in any denomination are a waste of time and money. Take your credit or debit card and draw what you need, when you need it, from the ATM.
What is the point of paying for travellers cheques, worrying about losing them, queueing at exchange booths to cash them, often at a poor rate, when all you need to do is stick your card in any ATM and just take exactly as much as you need.

Cash is king. However, if you're going outside the major cities then take American Express US$ travellers cheques. Anything else can give you problems cashing them.

im not really familiar how traveller's cheques work in the Phi..
though pound would have a higher conversion rate, maybe it would better to have them in USD because people there are more used to it..

it's too hard to cash travellers cheques, it's better to bring some cash and your atm if it has star, plus or cirrus logos... i'm sure you'll find an atm that you can use it on, but better to use the equitable atms, they charge only $2 per withdrawal, 5,000 pesos limit per withdrawal... i believe 25,000pesos limit per day... the exchange rate is usually about the same as the day's rates.
