I know it happens in late pregnancy but what about early pregnancy?

If your palpitations are sudden and not related to excersise, if they make you feel faint or you have a fever, or shortness of breath you might want to see a doctor. Palpitations can be just nothing or a symptom of infection, heart or thyroid disease among many. You could try taking your own pulse either at the front/side of your neck or inside your wrist, in the region that would be below your index finger.
count up to a minute and if you are higher than 100 at rest or you feel it's irregular you should check with a doctor.
Also, if you could have your blood pressure taken that would be good information for the doctor.
The other user is right, palpitations do not occur in every pregnancy.

Heart palpitations are not something that happens in all pregnancies, I have been pregnant 12 times, delivered 9 babies and never had a single palpitation. I am wondering where you heard this bit of misinformation.
