To begin with, Malta is a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the largest island of the archipelago of 5 islands. These are Malta, Gozo, Comino, Cominotto and Filfla. It is around 60 kms away from Sicily and 92 kms away from Libya. The national language is Maltese, although they speak English, Italian.
Malta is a republic country run by the Nationalist Party (PN) and the Prime Minister is Dr. Lawrence Gonzi. While the President is Dr. Edward Fenech Adami.
From 1st January 2008, Malta will be using the Euro instead of the Maltese Lira £M.

Correction to the Fonz...they speak Maltese, though many of them speak English as a second language and it is one of the official languages. When I was there I found that the children only spoke Maltese and that adults not associated with the tourism industry spoke little English.

Malta is an island nation. It's located in the Mediteranean Sea, south of Italy. It's a very small country with about 400,000 people. I'm not sure what you mean by who runs it...Lawrence Gonzi is the Prime Minister and the government is a republic. It's an independant country.
