I am not a big fan of Amniocentesis'. I had twins at 37, and it's NOT necessary unless they feel something is wrong. I had 4 amniocentesis, to draw the fluids out, so the one twins would not be harmed. But at this point, you are pregnant right? You are gonna have this baby no matter what, right? Make up your mind that ALL IS WELL, and MY BABY is FINE and HEALTHY...and it will be okay. Good luck
P.S. My twins are 5 now, beautiful, and so identical, in size, looks and personality, I CAN BARELY tell them apart :) !!

I have a history of miscarriage, so I wouldn't have an amnio in any case, much less in one that the insurance wouldn't cover. It carries a 2% risk of miscarriage, which is increased if you've already had one miscarriage, and even higher with more (I've had two). Of course, I wouldn't terminate a pregnancy with a special-needs child, so I don't see an amnio as necessary, since I'd raise the child either way and any resources that I'd need will be there when I need them.

I was 35 4 days before my first baby was born. My Dr asked if I wanted to have an amniocentisis. I researched the procedure...I found that there is a one in 200 chance of miacarriage. They can't do it till 5 months, and its too late to do anything (like abort) so I did not have it. I felt that I could deal with what I was dealt.

I wouldn't unless your dr gives you reason to have the test done. Insurance will cover them for women under 35 if they are medically necessary. I am only 27 and have had 2 already. First pregnancy had one to diagnose a chromosomal abnormality and with 2nd pregnancy to verify that all chromosomes were fine and that baby was healthy. Both of mine were covered by my insurance company. It is not a pleasant test

I wouldn't have one. I understand the benefits and such but I still would not be willing to take the small chance of miscarriage. But I also think it is a very personal decision that every mom-to-be has to make.

I wouldn't have an amnio unless I was 45 with a history of Down's Syndrome in the family. It is quite dangerous for the fetus and the mom and at your age totally unnecessary. My sister delivered a perfect beauty at 41 and my neighbor delivered her 11th at 43. You don't need one.

I wouldnl't because there is a chance of miscarriage with an amnio, and I would never have an abortion so it wouldn't matter to me. The sonogram can pick up most of the medical problems so I I'd be good just with that.

No because there is not really anything they can do but tell you if the baby is gonna have some kind of problem in which you are stuck with that problem anyways unless you determine to abort the child. I do not belive in abortions so I just didnt go through with it and whatever happens, happens. They are also dangerous to do so it is better to just not do it then to do it.

I don't undersand why you would have an elective amniocentesis. That is silly to me. Unless the doctor thinks it is neccessary, I wouldn't have one.
As far as an amnio being accurate, it is extremely accurate being that it is a genetic/chromosomal test.

I would definitely not get one. This test is not accurate! Most of the time it will give you false readings. Not only that but you could miscarry your baby. What difference would it make if you get the test done? Would you actually have an abortion if they tell you you don't have a healthy baby?
