Actually the temperature of the earth has increased less than 7/10 of 1 degree (C) from 1880 to 2005. That is an increase of about 1 degree (F) in 125 years. You may choose to believe that is global warming or you may not. Source: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. Some say that 1 degree is enough to impact the global climate, others say it's not. Most proponents of global warming think the earth's temperature has risen much more than that and don't even know that it has only risen by 1 degree. But the charts do not lie as do the proponents on both sides of this issue. The average temperature in the Antarctica is 109 degrees below zero. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica#Climate It seems to me 108 below (one degree warmer) is still pretty cold and not enough to melt anything. But there are those that say it will.

Back in the '70s all the hype was about global COOLING and another ice age was coming. I remember that they blamed pollution for that too. They said that all the pollution was darkening the skies and not as much sun was coming through so the earth was cooling off. It took many years to discover that they were mistaken and it was all just hype. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling So when someone says, "the sky is falling" don't believe everything you hear on either side of the issue. There are Spin Doctors galore out there.

Most of the time people will form an opinion and not really be informed about the subject with which they become so opinionated about. So it's best that you not form your opinions from other's opinions, (as in this forum) but on the facts presented. (Many do not provide any proof or links to prove their point, just their opinion.) With that said we do have a responsibility to do our part by doing whatever is within your power to keep our planet alive and well.

I hope that helps...

Here are reasons why global warming may not be caused by humans if it is occurring:

1) The geologic record has evidence that the climate has changed cyclicly for millions of years before humans existed on earth.

2) The Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age are examples of global warming/cooling that occured before the Industrial Age when humans began putting large volumes of "greenhouse gases" into the air, but during the time when people lived on earth.

3) There are known climate cycles that last hundreds and thousands of years in the geologic record, as well as ones that last decades, annually (the seasons), and daily. All these cycles are superimposed on top of each other. Analyzing only the last 50-100 years of temperature data to predict cycles that last hundreds of times longer than that is ineffective at best and poor science at its worst.

4) Correlation between the amount of "greenhouse gases" in the air and the temperature is merely correlation; it does NOT mean causation. There is a correlation between the Dow Jones average and temperature as well, but this demonstrates no more causality than this "evidence" climate-alarmists like to cite.

5) There are competing theories that solar fluctuations (sunspot cycles) and changes in the earth's magentic field are responsible for changes in the earth's climate.

The argument isn't whether or not global warming exists. It's a fact that the Earth is warm and getting warmer.

The controversy is whether or not man is at fault for this phenomenon. There are many that (correctly) say that the Earth has gone through multiple cycles of warming and cooling long before man existed and our current warming pattern would continue even if man suddenly didn't exist on the planet.

Unfortunately, it seems politically correct to assign blame for this cycle and declare hysterical solutions to try to change nature. I guess 200 years ago, someone would be burned at the stake for this phenomenon.

The main reason that I don't is I did have a job where I worked with large amounts of CO2 ,so I wore a very good detector ,and I have never saw an increase. Then I found that the reason is that plants take in the CO2 and give us back O2. So if the CO2 is not there neither is global warming like u mean it.

okay five reasons, I will try and keep it short.

1. The sun is putting out more energy than it ever has....
2.Accurate weather measurements don't go back that far, also unreliable data, plus that the warming isn't that dramatic, on paper it shows maybe .5 degrees celcius
3. antartic sea ice has increased since 1979 (source Geophysical research letters)
4. From 1986 to 2000 central Antartic valleys cooled .7 degrees per decade with serious ecosystem damage (source Nature 415: 517-20
5. also " side-looking radar measurements show West Antartic ice is increasing at 26.8 gigatons/yr. Reversing hte melting trend of the past 6000 years. source ( Science 295: 276-96)

good question.... hope this helps!!!

Good reason #1 The planet has its own mechanisms of heating and cooling.
Good reason #2 If you subscribe to the Humans are the problem philosophy then how do you explain the end of the last Ice Age
Good reason #3 In the seventy's the scientific community was convinced we were on the verge of another Ice Age
Good reason #4 The fix for the hole in the Ozone (remember that) was to increase the output of green house gasses and the ozone fixed itself by its self with out our help
Good reason #5 If the climatologists cant even tell me ten days in advance weather or not its going to rain with anything greater than a 50 50% accuracy rate let alone tell me weather or not its going to rain on my birthday next year how can I trust them about whats going to happen in the next ten or twenty years?

It doesn't make economic sense for rich people to believe in global warming.

Just pay to go to work and contribute to the problem.

I believe that Michael Crichton has written well on this. Check out this link below. He calls environmentalism a "religion" and believes that society is carried away with it.
