I've heard most insurance companies won't cover the pregnacy if you get insurance after you find out. My gyno of 7 years does not except Medicaid and I don't want to switch. My main concern is having to pay for hospital bills. Are there any insurance companies that will cover only hospital bills???

Unlikely that you will be able to get any kind of prenatal coverage at this point. I am also pregnant (35 weeks) and I my insurance does not cover "normal" prenatal care or "normal" labor and delivery. However, they will cover (and I think they have to by law) complications of pregnancy, labor or delivery. (Go figure!) I called every hospital in 30 mile radius to find out what kind of $$ I could expect. In the Indianapolis area, vaginal delivery is anywhere from $2500-$7000 (depending on length of stay) and about twice as much for cesarean. My OB/GYN set up a prenatal care payment plan in which I paid a monthly amount of $150....balance due prior to delivery. If he/she will not work with you, I wouldn't worry too much about being loyal. If I were you, I would call Planned Parenthood in your state to see what your options are. They can at least lead you in the right direction. Try not to panic and do as much research as possible before you make any decisions. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

If you dont want to switch doctors be ready to pay out of pocket for all hospital and doctor bills, I just recently had to switch OB's because of a change in my health insurance and if I would have stayed with the same OB I would be paying 70 dollars a visit and over 2000 dollars just for delivery. Medicaid covers it all so that is the option i took.

Check your state's laws. In some states it's illegal for pregnancy to be considered a "preexisiting condition." You'll have to switch providers if your current one doesn't accept state insurance, but you can get around hospital bills by having a midwife & a home birth or a birth center birth, which is much less expensive than an OB & a hospital birth. Even a midwife-attended hospital birth would be cheaper than an OB-attended one.

Depending on your state, there are ways to take the hospital bills to the medicaid office and they might be able to help you out. But let me just warn you....i got the bills after having my first child...i had insurance, it was just a mix-up, but it was WELL over $50,000 because once you get to 7 months you'll be there more than once a week. So i would suggest possibly switching providers and getting medicaid, just to save yourself the trouble.

there is medicaid program that you pay your bills and if they are a certain percentage of your income, they will reimburse you for a portion of it.

as for the insurance not covering you, if you had insurance got pregnant then switched, they HAVE to cover you, but if you had no insurance, got pregnant, they dont- and its cheaper not to....

that's the best i can offer you

good luck and congrads

You are going to have to get Medicaid and switch doctors or pay for it all yourself which is going to be expensive. You will get better care with Medicaid vs. self pay.

Best wishes!

You may not have any choice but to switch your provider because most insurance companies will not accept you with prior pregnancy knowledge.

Pregnancy is no longer considered a pre-existing condition like it once was. Almost all medical insurances will cover your pregnancy even if you knew before you got the insurance

I have always wondered why other countries don't follow the Canadian health care system. Additional taxes are paid to support a full service health care system. You can be broke as a joke but still see a doctor. I love Canada!!!
