In order to be "America's Team", you have to actually WIN IT ALL!They could be characterized as that for the simple fact that they have had a lot thrown at them over the past 18 months with watching their beloved city almost getting destroyed and going under with the force of a hurricane. So if the New Orleans Saints should win it all this year (I kinda hope they do), it will be a fitting end to one of the greatest storybooks ever written. Winning it all would be good for them because that would show the kids of America that in spite of challenges, struggles, and setbacks that one man (or team) can make it in spite of whatever is placed in front of them.

No. The Cowboys will always be America's team. Two reasons. One, and the top reason, is that they gave themselves the nickname. Remember the saying to be the man you have to BEAT the man. They better get 5 rings first. The Second reason is that America doesn't care that much. Most of America and NFL fans in general either like or hate the Cowboys. Sure the Saints are the "feel-good" story but that doesn't make them like or hate level. You have to develop that over years. Much like the Cowboys and ever the Steelers have. Just like Pittsburgh will be the City of Champions, because they gave themselves the title in the late 70s. Winning Superbowls and World Series titles though they had a right.

Unfortunately, the Saints, while a great story, are not "America's Team." The Dallas Cowboys were given that moniker, but in more recent times that has been proven untrue. "America's Team" these days appears to be the Pittsburgh Steelers. Notice that whenever the Steelers are playing road games, their fans are a huge part of the audience. When the Steelers last played the Cowboys, the Cowboys players talked about how they couldn't hear on offense because the Steelers fans were too loud. In the playoffs last year, ticket sellers were asked not to sell to anyone calling from a 412 or 724 area code. The Colts took out a newspaper ad requesting their fans not sell their tickets to Steelers fans. Love it or hate it, the Pittsburgh Steelers have become "America's Team."

The Dallas Cowboys are considered (and self-proclaimed) "America's Team," but recent polls showed that the Pittsburgh Steelers are actually America's favorite team. The Cowboys were second, and i want to say the Saints were somewhere up there.

A trip to the Superbowl would definately help put them over the top!

Saints: Mainly for the reasons you stated, although it gets annoying hearing about the feel good story all the time. Rams: Mostly because nobody really hates them, Bradford is a pretty likable guy, and they are going to be much better in the next few years. Packers: They are the only fan-owned team and go about their business without any trash talk or distracting side issues now that Favre is gone.

they need a superbowl win becasue thats what the dallas cowboys did. they are still america's teams but the saints are giving the cowboys a run for their money. they turned a 3-13 season last year to a wonderful story of comebacks which should be turned into a movie.

No team can be called 'America's Team'. Even when the Cowboys were calling themselves that it was stupid. If you go to 20 different areas of the country you'd come up with 20 different 'America's Team' . It is nonsense, and without merit.

I don't buy into the whole "America's Team" thing. There's 32 NFL teams, each of which has its own share of loyal fans. I've never particularly liked or disliked the Saints, and a catastrophic event in the city that they play in doesn't change that for me.

"America's Team" is the Cowboys. Because the country is on their side (mainly because of the Katrina tragedy) I can see how they can be viewed as "America's Team". But real fans know (despite winning or lots of losing) that they are (and hopefully always will be) Louisiana's Team.
