I just asked my midwife this question yesterday! She told me if all is well (if the baby is alert and posistioned just right) at the time of the ultrasound, the sex can be determined as early as 12 weeks. However, most babies are ether asleep during the ultrasound, or twisted this way or that with their legs crossed. So some ladies have had to wait as long as 6 months!!

ok so i got a thumbs down for this, and someone who thinks theyre top authority will probably give me another thumbs down but i found out at 14w1day. I had fallen, and i went to the dr and the tech was having problems finding the heartbeat so he ordered an ultrasound. The tech could tell pretty much what he was, but she couldnt confirm 100% but she did say she felt confident the gender was male. She said after 10 years of experience she felt that boys were easier to tell earlier than girls, and that most of the time she had trouble determining it was a girl until about 20-22 weeks. I went back for my 19 week ultrasound and sure enough, it was a boy. Anywho, i hope that helps. Good luck =)

16-20 weeks...but the baby has to be in a good position for them to see. If it's not, ask to have another ultrasound in a month...provided you have insurance and they will cover it. You know, there are blood tests that I have heard can tell the sex.

I had an emergency ultrasound at 15 weeks and my technician said you can see its just really small so position has to be just right. Sure enough you could see he was a boy. With my second son we thought i was 22 weeks and I was only 17 and we could also tell with no problems

It's usually about the fifth month that they can determine the sex of the baby.
