If the debts were accumulated after the divorce then all he has to do is get a copy of the divorce decree and call each place that she has a debt with, ask to speak to a manager and explain that he is divorced and has been for longer than the debt has existed. He will have to send them the proof (a copy of the divorce decree).
He should then close all joint accounts and have his name removed from them.
If he has any trouble with this then he should get a lawyer. Credit card companies don't care about you or your situation... they just want their money and can be really difficult to deal with.... it may take some time to get this taken care of.
He can always prosecute her for fraud.
If the debt formed before their divorce was final then there isn't much that he can do about it, I would still recommend that he closes all joint accounts!

If he filed for divorce before these debts were started, he is not responsible for them. It states it in the court papers. He needs to first find that out. All he has to do is run credit report, contact creditors and then fax them the divorce papers stating when the divorce was originally filed. The court papers have date stamps on them. He is not responsible for these debts he can prove it on paper. I would be will to help him solve this issue. Just email me at jerdogg06@netzero.com. I have had this done to me before and solved it quite fast.

He needs to get a credit report. It will show where the debts are and how much is owed.
Your partner needs to take his name off of all credit cards that were in both of their names. It's called fraud if she's using his name and they're not together.

if there are any accounts (weather joint or not) that were openend in your partner's name (joint or not) without her permission then she needs to file a police report. first...run a credit report. you can start with www.annualcreditreport.com to get a free copy your credit report from all three credit reporting agencies. Transunion, equifax and experian. well first is running the credit report. second...file a police report. third...contact the creditors and dispute from there. and it wouldn't hurt to have a lawyer...just in case.

Check his credit report and then take her to court. He is not responsible for debts she incurred after the date the divorce was final, regardless of who's account it's on. Don't let this situation continue or it will get out of control.

Have a credit report run. You can do it once a year for free. He should also get divorced! That way she can't harm him financially anymore.

If these are joint accounts then he should have access to them. If she opened these accounts jointly without his permission, then she is guilty of fraud, & he can have her charged under the law.
