Any non-zero number to the zero power is 1. This is because x^a / x^b = x^(a-b). But if a and b are the same, then x^a / x^a = x^0, so 1 = x^0.

Any value raised to the zero power equals one by definition.
You can't actually multiply a number by itself zero times - kind of confuses the brain to consider!

In many cases 0^0 =1, but in other cases mathemeticians choose to say it is undefined.
Wikipedia has an excellent write-up that presents arguments for 0^0 being one and for 0^0 being left as undefined.
