A VPN would be an excellent choice for this problem. VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. Basically, it's networking like you're in the same room, but across the internet instead. I've enclosed a link that will describe this in more detail and how to do it.

Two ways I can think of, One cheap and one not so cheap. The best way is to use the internet. You can send files through e-mail or upload them into an online storage drive. The next is to use directional antennas in a line of sight fashion. This will involve using a wireless bridge powerful enough to send and receive the transmission. We have on at school(I'm the tech guy). It’s a Cisco wireless bridge. It’s about 300 dollars and you will need two of them. Best bet is to check into the online storage.

An easier solution than a VPN is a piece of software called FolderShare. I don't think it's free anymore, but it's a very good solution.
It basically created a secure link, then synchronizes the folders to each other whenever both computers are online.

It would probably be easiest for you to use FTP (file transfer protocol) for this. You'll need to set up a FTP server and client, and you can generally use any machine for this. There are a ton of software packages available that can assist with this...some are free and some are not, as you might expect.

Here are some of the clients that you could use:
