My boyfriend's mom bought us a sunbeam heater blanket for a king size bed and it's AWESOME! It has 2 controllers, 1 for my side and 1 for his. The heat goes from low-15 (I think, maybe higher). It's great though! About 15 minutes before we go to bed, I turn them on so when we get in it's warm! Great investment, I think!

Sunbeam makes pretty good stuff, so I'm sure that heated blanket will be pretty good. I would say just make sure the blanket is not to thin because if so you will feel the heated wires against your body after using for a while. I have a heated blanket and it was expensive at $95 but it's worth it. It's very thick, has 1-15 temp settings, and somehow it will shut off automatically it recognizes that you are not actually using the blanket and left it own. It's been getting so cold these past weeks in Cali that a heated blanket is a good to use to keep you warm.

Electric blankets are helpful in warmer climates, but there are a few issues:

- Low frequency (60Hz, derived from how often North American power alternates) electromagnetic waves are a cause for health concerns, though there is absolutely no scientific evidence for any troubles. I live right beside an electric substation, because the property values were cheap and over 100 years of electrification have not proven any ill effects. But until the debate is conclusively proven, you should know about the risk. (Speaking from an electrical engineer's perspective.)

- Thermostat failure. If the thermostatS (note the capital S, there will also be a backup thermostat) were to fail, the blanket could potentially heat out of control, possibly to the point of a fire risk. If it happens while you're in bed, you'll be annoyed by excess heat and unplug it. If you forget to unplug it, after a few hours, a fire could result. These things are pretty safe if you make it a routine to unplug it after you get out of bed.

- Abrasion and wear of the blanket might expose you to electrically live conductors.

I don't like them too much. Buy a good comforter instead.

Honestly, if I was you I'd be very careful with any type of electric blanket. I had one once & thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Until, one night, as I was dozing off to sleep, I saw a little light flicker. Normally, I just roll over & go back to sleep, but, thankfully I didn't this time because it was my blanket......it had caught on fire ! So, I was able to unplug it & toss it outside in the snow. If you do get one, when you fold the blanket (to store it) be very carefil because if you don't do it the right way, you can eventually break/split any of the wires & cause it to catch on fire....unexpectedly.

I don't know if it's the best, but it does work good. I actually like the heated mattress covers. At any rate, I'd buy one, especially if it's a good price.
