I work with low socio-economic kids who often come to school ill. As a result, I am catching their colds right and left. I am 14 weeks pregnant and this is my fourth major cold. Could this harm the baby? Should I quit my job to avoid sickness?

Colds are generally fine.

What you want to watch for are fevers, and illnesses that effect your immune system adversely such as chicken pox (if you've never had it) or the flu.

Take your vitamins, ask about an extra vitamin c, eat very healthy, and stay active, and drink at least 4 8 oz glasses of WATER a day. All these things boost your immune system.

Colds during pregnancy aren't bad, but you should make sure you're up-to-date with all your vaccinations (including the flu vaccine) since those other illnesses can be very harmful. Also pay close attention to your symptoms and if you get a sore throat, have it tested for Strep ASAP. Strep is *very* dangerous during pregnancy if left untreated.

Talk to your OB, but I think you're OK. Drink lots and lots of water to avoid dehydration and get enough rest, and you should be fine. Also ask your OB if taking extra vitamin C is OK.

omg! I have the worst cold! I'm miserable! It really sucks!! You would think when taking prenatals you shouldn't be so likely to get colds.
