Do they not understand the charge that the Government orchestrated that attack to instill fear and obeyance from the very people who ask this question?

Even presupposing the “official” government version of the events is true (which I do not), and that Al Qaeda was indeed involved in the attacks on 9/11, the rebuttal made by many conservatives about how well the government is protecting us by citing the absence of attacks on US soil since 9/11 is a dubious claim.

If the 9/11 events were initiated by religious militants, the reason why there have been no attacks since, is because Al Qaeda has completed its objectives. The attacks would have been motivated out of a need to get the U.S. into an embarrassing military and diplomatic fiasco, which would weaken their clout and reputation in the rest of the world. Within this vacuum Islamic fanaticism can flourish unabated. So far, in the terrorists view, the mission has been accomplished. So there would be no more reason for them to want to attack us.

Aside from that, to say that homeland security and counterterrorist efforts are working, under Bush’s leadership because of the lack of attacks, makes about as much sense as us saying that since no attacks occurred after the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, Clinton’s administration thwarted any attacks on US soil all the way to the end of his term in 2000. Thus, Clinton’s administration, not even having a huge bureaucratic apparatus as Homeland Security, kept us safe much more cheaply and efficiently.

Of course, when you tell a Republican proponent of Bush this, they are immediately flabbergasted. Yet, if you think about it their silly logic is being applied in legitimately the same way.

However, in the final analysis I am with you Humanist. The most likely reason why no more outside attacks occurred from an external agent, is because the 9/11 act was not an act of outside aggression, but was an act of subterfuge levied on the American people by our own government to elicit their consent for an illegal war.

ok i can see how you would think that, but the fact of the matter is, there have been no major attempts to attack us since 9/11. What bush is doing hasn't really made us safer. What he has done is use 9/11 as an excuse to get america into a war that we really have nothing to do with, drove us 4 to 5 times deeper into debt, while at the same time, allowing Osama bin Laden (the one that was actually behind the 9/11 attacks) to walk free. Now, since Obama wants to actually go after bin laden and al qaeda in afghanistan, i dont really see how he could be THAT much worse than bush...

That conspiracy theory notwithstanding, the reason the question is asked is to prove the efficiency and efficacy of the counter-terrorism measures taken by the government; in other words, if there has not been an attack since 9/11, then the measures and plans implemented must be working.

Yawn....our government is so impotent that for one person to come up with something like this and keep it a secret would be nearly impossible. To tie all levels of government officials into it and carry it out in different locations is untenable.

As such, I don't buy in to the conspiracy of this being done by our government. We're just too inept.

Bush didn't plan 9/11, but he took full advantage. As I predicted on that very day, watching it in person.

9/11 has been debunked time and time again. I've looked into it myself and I can assure you we did not kill our own people to go into an unpopular war for some oil we could have bought from Saddam in the first place.

No, it is NOT fear mongering. Just as Al Gore making a movie about Global Warming is not fear mongering. Gore as well as our government truly believe there is a threat out there and want to stop it. Simple as that.
