Loud sounds whether pleasant or unpleasant from the listeners viewpoint are damaging to the hearing. The ear canals have tiny hair like receptors called "Cilia". Loud sounds cause these receptors to shut down. Everytime you listen to loud music a few more cilia die. Therefore the hearing loss is cumulative. You may not notice it at first, but over time your hearing will be greatly reduced. The sad part is that NOTHING can be done to restore it once it is gone. Hearing aids, even the newest and best, don't really restore your hearing to what it was before you ruined it. And the hearing aids, regardless of what the ads say, amplify the bckground noise as well as what you want to hear. Thats why most people who wear them either turn them way down or shut them off in noisy environments. They're almost impossible to wear while driving as the road noise is amplified to the point that it is painful. The first part of the hearing affected is the high frequency range. Since most children's and women's voices are higher pitched they are the hardest to understand for someone who experiences this type of hearing loss. Most background noise is in the low frequencies so for people who suffer this hearing loss noisy places make it difficuly if not impossible for them to carry on a conservation as the background noise masks the voices. The worst thing though is that as you destroy your hearing you develop what is known as tinnitis. This is a ringing in the ears. Ever been out and listened to the insects buzzing at night or listened to the noise from a busy highway? That is what it is like, it never goes away and there's nothing that can be done for it. When you're alone in a quiet environment it is even worse as there is nothing to mask it. Take it from someone who has the problem....... Protect your hearing while you still have it.

Yes listening to loud music at a high volume can be bad for the ears eventually if you continue to listen to really loud blaring music you may lose your hearing later in life. The ear drums are extremely sensitive to loud noises

I think that it matters how what ever your listening to sounds. If it sounds good, with well balanced sound, nice smooth bass. But if your speakers sound like crap; self explanatory. So hope this helps!!!

i don't think so. the thing about head phones (ear buds) is that the sound goes right into your ear and has no room to escape.
