Constellations are like street maps. Constellations are useful to map the sky. When you have a telescope and if you are searching the sky, you dont want to get lost with those millions of stars visible. So constellations tells you exactly where you are looking. More like guiding posts.

They're only useful for naming some of the more common visible stars and for naming meteor showers.
