They made so many great songs in such a short period of time, I mean the 4th cd is jam packed with them. Their last on song on their last cd (I don't include CODA) is titled ''I am going to crawl'' Is this omenous? They main songwriters behind Led Zep are still alive yet they have done nothing that's worth mentioning!
How can this be?
I mean great musicians like Bach or Handel were productive all their lives, even such mediocre ones like Bob Dylan.
How does Jimmy Page live with himself?
weird...
P.S. Sorry, Plant came out with a good ''the great rearranger'' album recently, but what about Page? Did he stop composing all together?

Well, they did not stop composing entirely. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant both released a few solo albums, and then the two re-united and released a few albums, one of which was "no quarter" which included some remastered zeppelin work. They also toured together, doing zeppelin songs. However they never reunited to record any songs for the band, in fact the only time they reunited was for the live aid in 1985.
The main reason that they stopped was because since John Bonham died, and they got another drummer, they would not be led zeppelin. They did not feel it right to re-create the band, they felt they had best left what they had at that, and not try to start over with a new drummer. Besides, they were never going to find such a great drummer as Bonham.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are undoubtedly some of the greatest songwriters of all time, but you must not forget that John Paul also contributed to. He is just left out a lot because he was known as the quite one of the group. One of the major reasons that Led Zeppelin has stopped performing is because of the death of John Bonham, this just shows how closely they were related because they still won't play because he is not there. That was probably the biggest reason they broke up other than there increasing heroin addictions that had them at each other's throughts some times. I love Jimmy Page and I think that he is the greates musician of all time, but I also have to admit that he is kind of unusual with his connection with the occult and Alister Crowley. Although I did love his work with Paul Rodgers when they played together in The Firm after Led Zeppelin's break up, I just don't think that we will see much from him anymore. I also think that Robert Plant is still an amazing artist, his work on "The MIGHTY Rearanger" is incredible I think, it is different than Led Zeppelin but it still sounds great. I really don't think that we will ever see a Zeppelin reunion, I am very sad to say that but I believe that is the truth; even though Plant and Page have gotten back together in the past for Led Zeppelin Unledded. I think that the last time Plant has actually performed just Zeppelin songs was here in Chicago after hurricane Katrina. He put on a benefit show with Pearl Jam at $1000 a ticket, and I actually believe that was the first time he has ever sang "Fool in the Rain" on stage because Bonham died before he ever had a chance to. It is very sad to see this band not play anymore, but they cannot replace Bonham and they won't play without him, and I don't think that Plant and John Paul get along very well. They had some hardships in their career's and I just don't think that they will produce anything new, and if it is it will never be the same as classic Led Zeppelin.

MQ: I only have Led Zeppelin IV and Mothership to be honest. I buy most my CDs from the car boot. Immigrant Song is probably my favourite Zep song. I love D'Yer Mak'er as well. BQ: Don't like Hawkwind. Motorhead are better. ;) PS: It's Dimebag's birthday, too.

Led Zeppelin was the greatest group of musicians ever. But their time has passed. Sometimes it is good to go out on top. Look at the music industry these days. Hit songs are not based on talent. Page and Plant have no place in today's music industry. And that statement is not a knock against them, but against today's music.

Page and Plant sold out a long time ago. I feel like they can't put their past success behind them and move on. I don't know how they live with themselves... although there was an interesting article on Plant in Rolling Stone not too long ago- talking about simplifying and going back to the blues, and a bit about Zepplin and the excess.

P.S. Dylan always puts his past behind him and reinvents the wheel time and time again.

Well, Dylan was one of the best lyricists ever! His songs were profound and definitely before their time!

But Plant & Paige were 2 of the greatest musical artists ever! I agree! (Aren't they about a hundred years old by now though! They were old when I was young and I'm 48 now!)

The world just wasn't ready for them when they were at their most productive! Stairway to Heaven will forever go down in history - I suspect, a thousand years from now, folks will still put them in their top 100 lists! Maybe you can get some info here at this link:

Good luck!

They paid their dues and are just chillin' now. Plant's band has been touring for years. Page has been jamming with all kinds of musicians. Hell, he went on tour with Black Crows a few years back and did nothing but Zepplin. I think they're just living life and loving all the money they're still making. Plus, after Jon B. died, that kinda put a wrench in it ya know? Even his own son Jason couldn't fill his shoes. Not much you can do when the baddest drummer ever dies in your band. :)

Bob Dylan is mediocre? I have no answer for you except I think you should keep your lack of musical taste to yourself.
