In winter (only) I love flannel bed sheets. Why do they feel so much warmer than cotton sheets?

When you touch a cotton sheet, you come into contact with a certain amount of surface area. When you touch a flannel sheet you come into contact with less surface area. Heat transfer is a function of how much surface area is exposed. I love them too, summer and winter.
