Can music be imported to my Apple Ipod from Windows Media Player or do i have to use Itunes?

I have both Windows Media Player 11 and ITunes on my computer. This is taking up a lot of space. Do I need both to have music go to my Apple I pod.

The Apple iPod is only compatible with iTunes. I tried Windows Media, because personally i'm not that fond of iTunes. But sadly enough it's the only program that will sync music onto your iPod.
