The power of attorney gives you the authority to make decisions on her behalf. Usually the power of attorney stipulates that it is for either financial or healthcare. If it is for healthcare, it is now up to you to make decisions about your mother's care, in accordance with what you feel her wishes would be if she would capable now. Give a copy to her doctor(s) so that they are aware that you are now the decision maker. Then sit down with the doctor(s), discuss her illness and possible treatment options, then let them know which option you wish to pursue.

power of attorney means you can make all legal decisions for you mother. depending on what type of power of attorney it is you can have control of all her decisions and assets. it is basically like carrying your mom around to sign papers--but it has already been done.
see the lawyer who drew it up for you for an explanation.
