Many of the wealthiest Americans are Jewish. In fact, 25% of the wealthiest Americans are Jews.
But even so, that does not mean that they control all the money.
This stereotype goes back to the middle ages, when the Jews and Muslims were the ones who were into banking, because the usage of interest was considered to be heretical by the Catholic Church.

It is narrowminded because there are plenty of poor Jewish people out there, but it all goes back to the Middle Ages (of course, right?) Christians weren't allowed to lend money (there was some rule in the Catholic Church prohibiting it) so the Jews lent the money, which made it look like Jews were the ones that had the money. Today, Jews probably are wealthier per capita but that's only because there's so few Jews and education is such an important part of Jewish culture that they tend to go on for higher degrees and get paid high wages.
