I know they are very similar but what is the key difference?

Human cell's contain 46 chromosomes(normal).
Animal cells do not contain 46 chromosomes.
The mitochondrial respirational site rate is also different between human's and animals

in general, the main difference would be the DNA - the sequence and number. thus because of the different DNA, you'll get different types of proteins being produced in human and animal cells. note that there will be some proteins that are the same.
humans are of the kingdom animalia as someone pointed out.

Humans, being animals, have no difference in their cells from other animals except of course in the DNA.

The difference is that a human cell came from a human, one that didn't, didn't.

Not when it comes to technology and things like that, obviously, but here's an interesting thought: if something were to happen, and all humans were forced to survive in the wilderness, regardless of environment, 99% of us wouldn't know how to cope without flashlights, electricity, doctors, cops, microwaves etc. Animals would have the last laugh. A squirrel with an IQ of 10 would be looking at us thinking "what's your problem? there's food right THERE!" Michael Crichton pointed out in his book "Congo" that we intelligent humans cannot understand language of "lower" primates like apes, yet they can learn to understand English and sign language.
