More octopuses are born in October than any other month.

Just kidding...the real answer:

October is the tenth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

October begins in western tropical astrology with the sun in the sign of Libra and ends in the sign of Scorpio. Astronomically speaking, the sun actually begins in the constellation of Virgo and ends in the constellation of Libra.

In Latin, octo means "eight". October was also the eighth month in the Roman calendar until a monthless winter period was divided between January and February.

The Roman calendar adopted around 753BC and was a lunar calendar. It contained only ten months and October was the eighth month, thus the "OCT" part. The calendar looked like this

Martius (31 days)
Aprilis (30 days)
Maius (31 days)
Junius (30 days)
Quintilis (31 days)
Sextilis (30 days)
September (30 days)
October (31 days)
November (30 days) and
December (30 days)

The calendar was changed several times since and now we work off a twelve month calendar. When January and February were added, the October was made the tenth month instead of the eighth month.

The current callenender is the gregorian callendar. it Has twelve months and was created in th 16th century.
it contains two extra months notin the Julian Callendar (it Predecesor). These two months Are July and August. so named after Julius Ceasor and Augustus.
the Julian Calendar did actualy only have 10 months running from January to December minus the months of August and july.

Oh my god... ignore all these other people. The real answer is very simple: the Roman calendar started in March, not January (Mars being the patron god of Rome), and thus October was the eighth month. The Julian calendar reform did NOT create two new months - there were already twelve months previous to that, and Caesar did NOT rename July and August after himself. Obviously, he could not have - Octavian was not called Augustus until after Julius Caesar's death, so he could not possibly have named the month so. They were renamed much later in honor of Julius and Augustus.

OCTober is the tenth month because when the calendar was invented there were only tenm months, hence SEPTember, OCTober, NOVember and DECember for 7,8,9,and 10. obviously when Jan and Feb were added the month names weren't changed.

It used to be the eighth month until the calendar was reorganized and two more months added, I believe they were July (Julius Caesar) and August (Augustus Caesar). September is seventh, November ninth and December tenth.

Because it was first the 8th month! But then they added 2 months before that so it became the 10th! You can see it in DECember too ( Deca means 10 ).
