The old name for the Celcius scale is centigrade. That means that the space between boiling and freezing of water was divided into 100 spaces like cents in a dollar. centi means 1/100

Freezing Point And Boiling point are properties specific to different materials and compounds.
The celcius scale itself is based around water. at 0 degrees water freezes at 100 it boils. but it is different for all other substances.

Celsius scale was set up to be logical. 0ºC is the freezing point of water. The boiling point of water is 100ºC.
