Pelosi made a big deal about getting 6 things done in the first 100 hours the House is in session. And She's gotten 5 done already and the 6th looks likely.

But none of them have gotten through the Senate. If they die in the Senate or are gutted to impotence what will Nancy and company really accomplished?

Putting up legislation to be killed is part of politics. I think that most of what she's done will get through the Senate. Once it gets past the Senate (or if it gets killed in the Senate), a Bush veto does not render the effort meaningless. It forces Bush or Senate Republicans to take a stand on these issues, which can be used against them in a future election.

The members of the House cannot control the Senate. If they have already gotten 5 of the 6 things done they wanted to at this stage and the 6th is likely, it looks like they have been a success. They have already gotten done more that was accomplished in the last 6 years.

Jesus, they've been in office 2 weeks and already they've

1. Forced the president to fire the incompetent Dumsfeld
2. Raised the minumum wage
3. Forced congress to go back to a five day work week like the rest of us.
4. Forced the president to be accountable in Iraq.
5. About to cut the interest rates on college loans by 1/2!

That's pretty phuckin impressive! I guess that's what happens when you pay someone in Washington to actually work.

Go Pelosi, you keep it up girl!

Well, Pelosi promised to do alot in her first 100 hours, but she forgot to metion that even if her bills pass the house and senate, they will more than likely be vetoed by the president; and while the democrats have control of congress, they do not have a large enough majority to overide a veto. So despite her majority, she still needs to keep her liberal bills in check, or she will have overpromised and under-delivered.

Just wait...no matter which side of this debate you are on (liberal or conservative) you're going to find out that all of these politicians are cut from the same cloth.

I welcome any sort of change, but am hard pressed to think that anything will be different.

We vote for these people in election after election, and allow an elite group of radical liberals or ultra-conservative republicans to then run the country. It's the new crazy. We vote for either party and expect things to be different...

If none make it past the senate, then the only thing they've accomplished is showing the American people how ineffective our government is and how desperately we need change.

It is not their fault that Bush has veto power over everything they do. He is running the country like a dictator at this point. We do things like a democracy, until the last step, then Bush does whatever he feel like doing.
If anyone is hindering the success of our government, it is the same person who has been in our way for the last 6 years, our own president. It is getting to the point where it seems almost like he wants to fail, he takes no ones ideas or opinions into consideration, he somehow is so sure he knows best that he will not listen to anyone.
don't blame democrats because the republican leadership will not allow them to get anything done.

The really main thing she should do is to begin investigations into the illegal activities of Bush and Co. Anything else compared to that is nothing.
She is a wimp that caved into the demands of George Bush just as soon as she became Speaker. I don't like and I don't respect her. She her mind more on her Grandchildren than she does this Country.

You know, its really too early to tell. If they would at least ask that steaming turd W why he smirks and laughs every time American military deaths are mentioned to him, that would be more than the previous congress ever did.
