life insurance until you get on your feet if my spouse died everything would be paid for and when i got a job i would only have basic bills plus if you invest your money wisely you won't have to worry about that

Make sure the breadwinner has an up to date life insurance policy and a legal will. That way you know what happens if the breadwinner dies.

At least in the US or any industrialized nation.....

If you are in a committed relationship/marraige then no it is not irresponsible if the two of you made this decision together. If one dies, god forbid, then the other would have to make changes, obviously. There are a lot of ways to provide for a future. Call your insurance agent!
