We have noticed that our baby has drainage going down her throat. We can see her swallowing this gunk (because we adults go through this too). She has no cold, but I guess this could be from allergies? Is there anything to do to help this without medication? It disrupts her sleep at times. She has a pedi appt. next week, and don't want to call for this, as it is not an emergency. Is there such thing as baby allergy medication?

Many doctors will tell you that a baby is too young to develop allergies or enough sinuses to cause problems. HOWEVER -- my son was only 3 months old in the peak of the allergy season and I swear he developed allergies! So, I bought children's benadryl and gave him half a teaspoon and the results were drastic! The drainage, coughing, runny nose, and watering eyes disappeared. I researched the effects on a small child, and it does not hurt them in small doses. The warnings of harm to their organs are for parents who use these medicines on a daily basis in large doses to sedate their children (I recommend you research the same to reassure you) Best of luck to you!

When my little boy was that age we went through the same thing. I'd call the doctor first to see what you can give her. I'm pretty sure that they make over the counter allergy meds for infants. If not the doc. can give you some samples. When we went throught this our baby's doc told us to let him sleep upright in his car seat or in his baby swing. We ended up putting him in the swing beside our bed with some baby blankets tucked around him so he wouldn't fall over being so little. I hope I've helped in some way. Good Luck.

My son did the same thing and it was because it was really dry in our house. The doctor told us to set up a humidifier and let it run Vicks makes a really good one. He also said to use saline nose drops and it'll break it up and just go down. Then just talk him at your appt. DO NOT medicate your baby without talking to your doctor first.

Maybe the mint green colored bottle from Johnson & Johnson~~Vapor bath. That and a humidifer will help ease the baby's breathing and give her some comfort until you can get her to the ped's. Good luck!
