In theory your idea sounds reasonable -- and might work in a world with perfect information. However, this is a partial information world -- and the consequences of implementing your idea are quite scary.
Innocent people have been known to be charged with crimes. Are you saying that we ought to trample on the rights of the innocent to get the guilty? Or are you just ignorant of the fact that we would be doing just that, if we implemented your ideas?
An additional problem with your idea is that it includes no definition of what constitutes a criminal act. The Nazis used your method -- but to them being Jewish or an intellectual was enough to make you a criminal. Are you saying they are right? Because your beliefs justify their actions.
In the future, you should spend more time thinking about the consequences of your idea. You will find yhat your simplistic approach rarely works.

The basic premise is that YOU are innocent until proved guilty.
You'll NEVER know just HOW important that is until you've wrongly accused.
The only thing that separates us from animals is that we are learning to behave kindly and fairly , and treat each other that way; even when we're bad.
There are cultures that have behaved badly, like the Romans, who fed Christians to the lions.
What if you'd been a Christian in those days ? ( you may have )
Do you think we should feed people who are CONVICTED to lions NOW ??!!
What about people who have been WRONGLY convicted, who are later found innocent by DNA or something ?
Surely you've been grounded by Mom or Dad at some time in your life. Would you prefer perhaps being thrashed with a cat-o-nine tails ?? Say fifty lashes for not cleaning your room ?
What about 100 lashes and solitary confinement in a 20 foot pit in the ground for 5 years for borrowing the car
without permission ??!!
What if it was your big brother and NOT you ??!!
What about our president for instance. Do you think he should be shot in the head for murdering all of those people at the WTC bombings, and all of those people at the Bagdad bombings, and all of those troops who have died all over Iraq so his buddies can make bundles of money form the fabricated war ? What about the PNAC and the 9/11 Plot ? Have you googled that? Do you have any idea how obvious it is that they perpetrated the 9/11 attack so they could send troops to Iraq and conquer the oil fields ?
Do you think we should just go shoot these guys in the face, like our vice president does ??!!
Maybe we should bomb THEIR house into oblivion, and their town, and their parents too.
Just because they did this doesn't make them right, and as civilized people we need to behave in a better way, otherwise we're just as bad as they are.
THAT is why we have human rights.
THAT is why W will not join or recognize the World Court, because they would hold him to task for his actions and 9/11 would be exposed. 9/11=PNAC Plot. They will all be convicted though, eventually. But we MUST go through PROPER procedure.
It's called DUE PROCESS.
Otherwise men would take to the streets with guns and just shoot each other; like they think they have the right to in Iraq. They DO NOT have the right to do that anymore than China would have the right to do it here.

What the activists to whom you refer are doing is not so much defending the accused, but defending the system of law. Given the nature of people and their behavior concerning power, it is necessary to have some safeguards to protect those who have less power from those who have more.
People, given authority over others, tend to behave in very inhumane ways and the existence of humanitarian laws is an attempt to limit this inhumane behavior.

The intricacy of law is in the hands of those who use it .so to say any criminal can escape through any humanitarian laws if the applicators so intend to. It was made rather to check excesses.not for saving the criminals but the victims of long big convert conspiracies.
