Do you think they are really that delusional that they think they can sing, or do they know they're bad and just hoping to get a 10 second shot at being the next William Hung????

Oh, KBalls, I had not seen that study but it sounds accurate... I was really hoping they KNEW they were bad! LOL So very sad!
For the record, I have a little problem with how harsh some of them are treated, I wouldn't want anybody walking out and throwing themselves in front of the first bus they see!

There was a Cornell University study that proved that the less intelligent and humorous people are, the more deluded they are about their abilities and potential. This is why the less intelligent contestants (i.e. the "Dontcha" lady, Red, the bug-eyed guy) are absolutely convinced that they are the next American Idol. It isn't 100% accurate, but it's true more often than not.
In other words, people that "don't get it", don't get that they don't get it.

Gosh no I'm embarrased for some of them and have to hide my eyes I really think the last batch they sunk really low and got them from a mentally challenged school to be made fools of if these people had friends I am sure someone would step up and say hey you really can't sing.

I don't normally watch that show, but when I turned the TV on last night, it was on, and the poor kid with the buggy eyes was on, I missed his singing, and then the poor chubby kid with the Hawaiian shirt who sang God Bless America. Those poor saps. I had to turn it off. I laughed at them and felt bad all at the same time. They looked like they became pals afterwards though, so I guess it's not totally tragic.

I think the whole concept is silly. Who are they to claim "An American Idol" is singing other real American Idol songs. Be different and come up with your own material!!!

I don't know what is in these peoples heads! They seriously cannot believe they can sing. I don't know if some of them are just trying to get instant fame or some are really that delusional.

absolutely! i'm a karaoke host (a DJ). and there are many who feel themselves talented, but are tone-deaf. being tone-deaf makes them unaware that they are just that.
i had two girls last week, neither of whom could sing for sh!t, but they decided to "compete" w/ each other during the same song. both grew progressively louder, until the result sounded like a pack of starved hyenas fighting over the last scraps of a rotted buffalo.
i still shudder over that incident!

lt just proves that a lot of people are not in touch with reality. They should be guided properly. Some even look like they do not know what they're doing.

I was watching Foxnews and they said that some of them are getting paid to get on stage and sing badly, b/c A/I already knows who they are going to pick to win. That shows you how crooked them shows can be.

Some of them have definitely been misguided. But most the really bad ones are set up.
