Interesting analogy, Dragon, but as opposed to "bullies" the broadcast stations are "cowards" - they will put on just about ANYTHING the people will listen to, and nothing they won't!

So the people always have the ultimate decision.

I don't know that anyone has the right to demand that government give them a forum to express opinions no one wants to hear. The government just can't restrict that person from speaking. It can't force people to listen.

The libs can't get enough support for their own talk radio platform, so they have to censor conservative talk radio.

If it were run properly by the media it would have never been stopped in the first place.
It was put there to make sure that the media presented fair coverage on what they put out on the airwaves.
But if the media did not want to get the other side of the story out, they did not put any information out at all, thus not informing the public.
I don't understand why the media of today would want this, because if it were to be in-forced, the media would have to give fair coverage to all stories they send out.
They don't do it now, they only give the side that they want the people to hear.
I don't know if this "fairness doctrine" is the answer or not, but something needs to be done to get the media to report the news fairly.
I believe that Stalin or Hitler or somebody like that once said that if you want to take over, gain control of the media first.

The problem is one of the "commons".
Suppoes you had a little village with a village square in front of the Courthouse as many small towns still do. Everybody uses it, allowing each person in the village to have a turn for whatever, some make speeches, some just have parties and barbecues.

Now one day a Gang moves in a occupies the central Pergola all the time, not letting others have a turn. so folk, trying to be nice, use other parts of the square, but the Gang starts to restrict those area as well.

Eventually the town, in spite of terrible intimidation, establishes a fairness doctrine, that the gang has to let a few towns folk use parts of the square occasionally. The Gang complains bitterly that their "rights" are being taken away.

The Public Spectrum IS that square, and the Gang is the usual Gang Of Pirates, that has cornered every corner of that "Square".

The proper response is to limit Leasing (and charge for it) of each piece of that "Square" to one to a customer, and require supporting the entire community as a part of the price of that lease. And have a cop that will keep the "square" honest and free.

Only then can the "square" return to Real, honest, old fashioned. American Values.

Fairness Doctrine - is a dead issue and is never enforced - it is a law, however have you seen anything to indicate that it is being enforced - where is the so called balance. One need only watch CNN
