absolutley not. if you ask a question, its because you want someone's answer. "whatever floats your boat" = "i don't care"

Depends on the question. If the question is: "Should I have peanut butter or tuna for lunch?"... Hey! Whatever floats your boat!

If the question is... "Should I kill myself today?"... I'd have to say that references to watercraft would be highly inappropriate.
