First and foremost, no member of the Duke Lacrosse team raped, assaulted, kidnapped, etc. the accuser. They were wrong, but not for what they were prosecuted for. Just as the parents said in their interview on "60 Minutes," they were morally wrong for having this party and condoning this behavior as a team, but they have payed the price many times over for this behavior. As a Division I leading team, they should know that their actions off the field as a team and individuals play as important a role as their actions on field.
As far as District Attorney Mike Nifong, he was wrong and most definitely using this case as electoral sway for an election he would have most likely lost. As much as I would enjoy seeing him sued and in jail, most likely neither of these things will happen. He should never have prosecuted this case, as the evidence was not there to do so.
He will most likely be disbarred by the North Carolina State Bar, but despite changes in the North Carolina law to allow for the ability to sue a District Attorney in the future, he will be grandfathered into getting off pretty much free and clear.
The other thing that I must mention is, of course, the accuser and her wrongdoings. She has both provided many false statements to the police as well as committed perjury on the stand. On the first day she went to the police, she provided three different accounts of what happened, and one even included that nothing happened. Unfortunately, as much as I believe she should receive jail time for her actions, she will most likely get off with a slap on the wrist. It is her actions that make those that are truly raped harder to convict those that assault them.
Just an unfortunate situation overall.... for those in the future that are truly raped, for the young men and their lives, and even for the sport of lacrosse, which has been tarnished by this case.

Is there anyone who actually doubts that the persecution (rather than prosecution) of the Duke students was anything but a cheap political ploy by a unethical, vote grubbing, demagogue?
He should be driven from office and public life.
The Duke professors who rushed to judgement and joined with the mob howling for the blood the obviously innocent students should be stripped of their positions.

Certainly it's a big mess and a really dark cloud over that university and the community. I can only comment on what has been reported in the news.
First, let's not bluff ourselves into believing a frat party with a bunch of LaCrosse jocks compares to a Bible study group. I doubt you have to examine the situation very deeply to find lots of misconduct going on.
But the sad part is to have officials NOT DOING THEIR JOBS (such as prompt interviewing, sharing evidence with defense, etc) is just appalling. And then in the face of HAVING NO REAL EVIDENCE, continuing to prosecute someone to whom they have no linking evidence, is just disgusting.

I'm sick of it.
Once again a serious issue has been turned into a story about race, social and economic class and with everyone focusing so much on that detail - important facts, appropriate action and behavior has been overlooked. The entire case seems tainted. I'll be glad when its over. I just dislike the idea that the possibility of such a serious issue has been turned into a media circus.

I think that lady has put a blemish on all women who are raped for her lies. Her story changes more than most change their socks. If she had been raped her story would have remained constant.. All she did was put those boys who probably are not totally innocent in the lime light and put women who have been raped back about 30 years. She needs to go to jail for false complaint or false charges.

That woman should spend the rest of her life in prison.
She nearly ruined the lives of those kids.

Yeah they were fishing, trying to make a big case... they succeeded unfortunately.
This whole episode just goes to show that strippers are opportunistic and nasty. All of them. :)
