Does anybody on here know anything about being a paralegal, I am taking a course and I really want to know if it is the right choice for me. My question is to someone that is a paralegal or someone that is closely knows a paralegal. Is this a great career choice, meaning pay wise and happiness wise.

P.S. I do love law!

I have been a paralegal for a little over a year now and I can honestly tell you it's the best move I've ever made career-wise. It's very little training... about six to nine months of courses. But if you have a love for the law, as I did, it's an ideal position.

A word to the wise however, many training schools will tell you how lucrative the paralegal field is... and that's true! However, many law firms won't even look at your resume unless you have a few years experience behind you. My first job was as a legal assistant and receptionist. Then I went on to be a case-worker for a personal injury firm. I didn't become an actual paralegal until about nine months into my career and that was because I had connections by then. It's slow starting, and your pay won't be much to brag about your first few years, but it's a good living with a good future.

I am a paralegal. I have enjoyed the career for 30 years. But no-one can tell you whether any particular career is right for you.
You won't know that for sure until you finish your training and work in the field for a while. As with any job, some companies, lawfirms, etc. are better to work for than others, so a lot depends on your bosses and co-workers.
Naturally, a paralegal isn't going to get the kind of money an attorney earns, but it is a good-paying job. It can be stressful, because there are a lot of deadlines in the practice of law.

If you have specific questions about being a paralegal, I'd try to answer them. But questions about whether this is the "right choice" for you are beyond any stranger's ability to answer for you.

I have to agree with the previous answer, ultimately only you can decide if a career choice is for you. I, too, am a Paralegal. I have 8 years in the industry. It is generally a good paying career. Some days make me salivate while other days I wonder why I ever made this career choice. I think that is probably true of a lot of jobs. The career accomodates a wide range of interests so if you don't like one thing (like family law for example) you can work in a firm that deals in another area. Or you can work in a general practice where you basically do most anything that comes across your desk. There are all kinds of opportunities and all kinds of firms (small, medium, and large). The trick is finding the best mix for your interests. Best of luck to you in whichever career you choose!
