There have been times when I have been afraid to do something about injustices, because the one committing the injustice is in power.
But, isn't it true that I am in danger of injustice too whether I do something about it or not?

If it's almost eminant that you will have to face it anyway, then be proactive. If it's something that you may never encounter, then live with the fear in the back of your mind. In your situation, I would confront the person or speak with somebody above them and expose the injustice for what it is. There's got to be somebody above the person in power because 99.9% of people in power are under the authority of somebody higher. Here's a good quote for your situation:

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

I wouldn't recommend that anyone lives in fear but neither would I recommend that anyone live in danger. You can take calculated risks such as taking a job promotion or asking someone out who you really like. The job promotion might not work or the girl may say no but at the end of the day... you tried! You only get one chance at this life so why be afraid!

Good question. "There is nothing to fear but fear itself." Our society relies on people to speak up about injustice and protect those who cannot protect themselves (children, for example).

Now that does not mean that if you witness a thug robbing an elderly couple at gun point that you rush over, throw yourself in front of the gun, and yell, "Stop in the name of justice everywhere."

What I am talking about is getting active in the causes that you believe in. Maybe you can volunteer at a rape crisis shelter, or be a child advocate in the court system, or work with the elderly, or become a police officer, or write a newspaper column about social injustices, or take your fight world-wide to battle oppression in Dafur....... whatever is right for YOU!

I have learned that fear is the biggest obstacle to battling anything big or small. Fear can also be an asset if used the right way. I was violated by my local police department and i was scared to fight them but i did and got a wonderful outcome. They violated my home and scared my children unnecessarily so I had to look past my fear to let my kids know that when someone messes with you or your world don't fight even though you may be afraid. you Will be awarded for your courage.

Living in fear is never a good thing.

I'd rather face danger then live in fear and under injustice. I'd rather die fighting for what I believe in then live under the thumb of another's beliefs.

I think is better to confront fear. However one must be wise about it. For example if you see someone being beat up on the street the best course of action is to yell fire and call the police. Getting involve can lead to physical injury plus you might be helping the wrong guy. What if the bad guy is the one being beat up? I still think is best to do something about ti. Society works best when we all play by the rules or as close to them as we can.

All it takes for bad people to rule is for enough good people to remain silent. Look at how gangs take over neighborhoods because too many people are afraid to get together against them. Personally, I do weigh the cost to myself and sometimes I stand up and sometimes I am silent. I can tell you I feel much better when I stand up, and I know a young man who stands up for what is right at any cost, even his job if necessary, and he is highly thought of by all who know him for his honorable character.
