Also... stick to being up with the sun and sleep when the sun is down. Of course don't eat anything with caffeine in it, not even in the morning including chocolate.
Also, sometimes you can't sleep before periods. This is very common.

I have Insomnia also. Some of the things that the doctors have told me is to try and exercise during the day it will help you be tired and relax at night (even if it's just walking). Also if you have a T.V. in your room that you should remove it and also not read in bed. They say that this helps you mind get in the habit that your bed is only for resting. I admit though that I couldn't take the T.V. out because it was so boring and depressing to lay there not being able to fall asleep with out T.V. Also if your phones rings sometimes late at night to remove phones from your room or turn the ringers on very low. And one more if you have animals that sleep on your bed try and lock them out of room. They probably wont be very happy with you, but believe it or not they constantly disturb you through out the night. Hope this helps good luck!!!

When your sleeping problem is that bad, you need to seek a doctor. They will be able to prescribe you some medicine to help you relax and sleep more hours. Your body needs at least 4 hours of sleep, if you dont even have that your body will start to deteriate. Your immune system will be weak, your brain will be tired because it doesnt get any rest, plus you will feel tired all day long.

First don't watch tv in bed. Only use the bed for sleeping. Reading a book in a different room or even doing some deep breathing exercises while repeating one or two words to help keep your mind focused and not wander.Otherwise If you can't find anything to relax you enough to sleep I hate to bring up sleeping pills.I personally hate them but sometimes it gets to that point. If you do decide to use them please read the directions carefully. If OTC ones don't help you may need to see your doctor.
