If someone says they will call you back in a couple of weeks (for a job), how long should you wait to hear from them?

For a job, wait 7 days and then you telephone them, thanking them for the interview and express enthusiasm for beginning the job "after the selection process". Wait 7 more days and then you telephone again, request your application status, and, if not hired AT THAT TIME, thank them and in a business tone of voice, request that your application be taken out of that company's "pending and potential" file in three days.
