If you can afford to, take the entire 12 weeks. Don't let them make you feel guilty about it. Bonding with your child is much more important than any job. You may not even want to go back after 12 weeks. In your case, you will have it especially tough, so you may decide that sooner is better, but you will have to see how it goes. After being alone with the baby for 6 weeks (the MINIMUM you should take to heal), you may find your job to be less exhausting than your home life. Put in for the entire 12 weeks, but go back when you feel you are ready. Your baby might be sleeping through the night by 6-8 weeks. If not, maybe you can come back on a part-time basis for your final weeks of FMLA leave.

It depends on you! If you are happy with the life you have with the one income (whatever it may be) then don't go back to work. I would just quite instead of taking leave and then deciding not to go back, it's more polite to the company so they can replace your position. My husband and I just want to have more money for things, and so I will be returning to work about 4-5 months after my baby is born. I am taking longer than the standard 12 weeks, but it's already been approved by my company. We feel having a fat college fund for each child, having vacations, trips and being secure in savings should something happen is too important for one income alone. My husband could support the family comfortably on his salary, but not really the way we choose to live. People may think what they want (don't care anyways!) but my child not paying off 50 thousand in student loans is important to us and so is our retirement, which we both plan to do early. But that is our choice and the decision we have come to. My friend is willing to make sacrafices to stay home with her kids once this one is born and that's the right choice for them. Decide with your husband, that's who matters in that decision. Good Luck!!
So the person who says all women are on best rest for 6 weeks after they deliver? WHAT? I have only know one person who was on bed rest at all and it was for a week for the blood loss. I had a c-section and wasn't on bed rest! Some people should actually HAVE babies before they answer lol.

I would take the entire 12 weeks, if you are financially secure enough to do so. You will probably spend the first 6 weeks recuperating, so take 6 more just to enjoy time with your baby. Also, your emotions will be wild during this time (probably...) so you may not feel like going back very soon. I ended up going back after 5 weeks and was an emotional wreck.

If is school age go for it. You can pick him up from school Everyone wil enjoy it. After 6 mts. u will be bored and ready to go back!

I say that you take the full 12 weeks and enjoy your new bundle of joy. Dont worry about going back to work if you dont have to. YOu have enought to worry about with the baby so take the time and enjoy it. And Congrats on the baby...

Most women go back between 6-8 weeks. The important thing is that you go back when you feel like you are ready.

You are required to stay on bed rest for 6 weeks after the baby is born. If you are not really required to work and you dont really need the money, girl I would rest if I was you. Its very good to bond with your baby for the first month.
