Is there anything proprietary about the memory/slots in a dell? Can I buy memory at say Office depot and add it to a new Dell PC?

. . . but the big question is > as u mention its a new pc & tampering with it could imperil warranty coverage !

It will work, but you'll probably invalidate the warranty on the Dell. As long as the warranty is in force, I would either stick with Dell RAM or hold off upgrading until the warranty expires.

I actually doubt it. A 7 year previous computing device's memory could likely be sixty six, one hundred, or 133MHz RAM modules at perfect. No new computing device on the marketplace interior the previous few years has been designed to apply the variety of RAM. regards, Philip

Memory support is determined by the motherboard u have . Checkout ur mobo manufacturers site and see what type of memory it supports.
