Curious to find out how many different cats there were in Egypt. I heard that there were all kinds. Panthers, Lions Cheetahs........ this is just something I heard and I wondered if there was much truth in it.

Lions and panthers were seldom found in the furthest reaches of Upper Egypt.But were brought back to Egypt form southern parts by expeditions,from neighbouring countries..
The Pharaoh and the priests both wore panthers skins as ritual adornment. The lion was first associated with royalty by the Ancient Egyptians.
The great Rameses II is recorded as having a lion that freely accompanied him everywhere,including into battle.
The domestic cat was a sacred animal,and was worshipped as the Goddess Bastet,or Bast.
The Goddess of chaos and destruction was depicted as a woman with the head of a lioness, and worshipped as Sekhmet.
Cats were popular as domestic pets and also kept in temples and warehouse,to keep mice under control.
Many mummified cats have been found in tombs which is an indication of how highly the Ancient Egyptians regarded the cat.
