It is sooooooo rude when people make fun or are rude or ignore people because of the way they look. Men are the worst offenders. What kind of parents did they have to raise such pricks?

Because unfortunately in our society, we have been taught that anything that is not beautiful or uniform is to be rejected and reviled. Look at commercials for beer, diet sodas, etc. Look at the women in those commercials. These are the images that are supposed to be appealing to the masses. Have you ever seen a TV show with plump women and men (besides the Parkers) that were made to appeal to those of us that aren't white, blond teenagers that aren't 110 lbs. and filled with angst? Nope. Look what's on TV. America's Top Model, the Tyra Banks show, Everwood, Wildfire, the list goes on. As a matter of fact, one show pretends to be about large people, the Biggest Loser...but look at what they're doing! Losing weight.

So it's up to society to change the perception of what is acceptable and what's not.

The way a person looks often has a ligitimate implication. If you don't wash for days and your hair is a mess, it has obvious implications that you're lazy and disorganized. However, sometimes being ugly or fat isn't anyone's fault. Then we fall victim to human nature, as very few people rise above their gut instinct at the moment when action is necessitated. You can be comforted in the fact that such reactions are mechanical, and aren't an honest judgement of who you are.

Hmm...careless parents who probably did an oopsie and had a kid when they really didn't want one. The kid grew up without manners and such and then decided, "hey, I have the power to make others feel like crap because I don't care!" And then the cycle continues.

Men are the worse? That is a very big generalization. Not unless, of course, you actually know ALL men, which I doubt. But you are right about looking at the person's parent/parents. But you must also look at the person's DNA to find out the reason they are so rude.

i myself am a larger woman and i cant really say i have a problem with people being rude to me or calling me names or even ignoring me. hell im too big for anyone to ignore. I dont find that people stare at me. so i really dont uderstand it when people say that. Most people cant help but stare at people that are different from the rest of us, trust me i stare at skinny women, and no im not gay. I aslo cant help but look at someone that is disfigured but mostly out of sorrow for them. Wondering what theyre life must be like, but not because im saying OMG look at that freak and i think if you asked most people would say the same thing. Im sure theyre are people out there that may stare at me but you just gotta smile, wave and say hi. maybe thats why i never noticed it.

If someone is insecure and they see a person
that they feel has some imperfection, it makes
them think of their own faults. I think they do it
to make themselves feel better. It's a very
bad habit and it's catchy.
