The Righteous Brothers were the musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They recorded from 1963 through 1975, and continued to perform live until Hatfield's death in 2003. Their emotive vocal stylings were sometimes dubbed "blue-eyed soul." Hatfield and Medley both possessed exceptional vocal talent, with range, control, and tone that helped them create a strong and distinct duet sound (and perform as soloists). Medley sang the low parts with his deep, soulful baritone, with Hatfield taking the higher register vocals with his soaring tenor. They gained their name when an African-American Marine shouted out "That was righteous, brothers" at the end of a show.

QHow did you get your name?
A: Bobby: Well we got our name working in a little club in Orange County, California. We were doin a lot of rhythm and blues at the time. And the longer we worked together (we had a five piece band at the time) we started doing more and more duets. On this one particular evening we several guys came in. ( We had a lot of Marines come in...) On this one particular evening there were several black Marines in there and when Bill and I finished doing a duet, one of them yelled out "That's righteous brothers". Later on after we dropped the name The Paramours, we started thinking about a name and I don't know which one of us it was but one of us said "how about The Righteous Brothers'?.... And there it is.

Because they had a more "Black" sound to them...a more R&B sound and therefore were to adapt the term Riteous...hence the Riteous Bros.....hey were then able to cross the boundaries of colour and make it on both hit lits at the time...and they still sell!!!!!
