Most cell phone companies now offer plans where phones can be added easily for a minimum monthly amount. It may be as simple as your son just going in (or online) and filling out the paperwork.

I added my mom for the price of a phone plus about $10 a month -- and she lives on the opposite side of the country, 3000 miles away! It has worked out great for both us, giving us both peace of mind (plus I feel I'm getting more for my money). Mom offered to reimburse me or split the total monthly charge, but in my case it wasn't an issue.

If you know what phone company your son uses, you (or he) can check what plans are offered to see what might work best. (Always smart to do your homework first). Frequently, upgrades can be made to a plan without extending the contract. Or, if your son has met the minimum time period, he may prefer to negotiate a new contract, as he may be able to get you both deals on phones (which is what I did, and was able to get my mom a new phone for next to nothing.)

All the best to you!

All he has to do is call the cell phone company. It will run $10 - $20 a month. Also, in the family plan like sprint, you can all talk to each other for free, without any minutes being used up. Also if he has the sprint to sprint plan, you can find out which friends have a Sprint and you can talk to them for free, but it has to be a sprint customer. Do not get it confused with other cell phone plans. Where one company using the FAVE plan, you can put any 5 people in any cell phone company and your minutes will not count. But call his cell phone company for info.

Did you ever think that you can get a cheap pay-as-you-go phone. If you want to use it for emergencies, just check the phone with the cheapest phone and the cheapest plan. Most of the time you can just buy minimum minutes to keep the cell phone activated.

And my personal favorite. If in the USA, they have companies like the Pocket cell phone companies, and some others, that charge you a $29 FLAT RATE. Yes, you can talk unlimited minutes. Then the $37, which gives you called id an some other stuff. You would have to talk to them about it. When my contract is up with sprint I will look into this, cuz this is better than sprint, if you just want a regular cell phone.

Now if he is reluctant to add you, he may be giving you a hint too. I do not know the situation but he may feel like you are still weaseling in his life. I would look at my other options, though.

If you have a plan where additional numbers can be added for a charge such as $10 each the person added can be anyone. The only requirement is that the phone must be in the same area. I am part of my brother-in-law's account.

BTW: I probably only make a couple of very short calls a week and pay the complete additional charge including taxes. It is cheaper than a prepaid plan and makes hardly a dent on his 500 minute a month plan.

He just has to either call up or visit in store his cell provider and tell them that he wants to add another line to his account.

It's super simple.

I have to be honest I think you should just get your own phone. One where you pay for your minutes on your own. Dont go doing that to him. I may sound prude but you should be taking care of yourself.
